An aberration is a shift from the norm, here thinking biologically a characteristic that deviates from the normal, perhaps colour type. The butterflies wing colour was an aberration, quite different from the species pattern and beautiful still. This connects to the making process via woodcut and reduction process but also impacts on the texts, an aberration does not imply something is wrong, simply different.
